Further Plantation

Further Plantation is a fragment of ancient woodland, in excess of 400 years old, that has become part of a larger wood within the last 100 years. This happened as the South Downs scarp-edge was managed in a different way, allowing the growth of Ash and Sycamore. The older wood is dominated by Yew, Horsechestnut, Beech, Sycamore, Ash and English Elm. Recently loses due to Ash Die-back have been catastophic, and the wood is entering a new period in its history.

I include the environs of Willingdon golf course in this site.
